Suriname national security conference

Overview

In early September 2026, Suriname’s Directorate of National Security (DNV) hosted the National Security Conference in Paramaribo. The two-day event focused on ‘strategic resilience and integrated cooperation,’ bringing together police, defense, and civilian stakeholders to exchange knowledge.

Discussions addressed various threats, including transnational crime, cybersecurity, maritime security, and the protection of critical infrastructure and food security. Minister of Justice and Security Harish Monorath called for concrete proposals to increase trust among security groups, while DNV officials emphasized the importance of proactive risk identification and breaking down organizational silos to safeguard national security.
