Suriname launches Krin Kondre youth employment project

The Surinamese Ministry of Youth Development and Sport (JOS) has launched the 2026 Vacation Employment Project as part of the ‘Krin Kondre’ initiative. The program aims to provide approximately 1,300 young people nationwide with paid work experience while contributing to community cleanliness.

In the initial phase, roughly 300 participants have begun working across four districts: Wanica, Saramacca, Coronie, and Commewijne. In Wanica, over 130 youths are working under the guidance of the Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning (OWRO). Over the next ten days, these participants will focus on practical tasks such as clearing litter from roads and school surroundings.

Before starting their duties, participants attended a two-day teach-in session covering safety, discipline, cooperation, and social responsibility. Officials, including OWRO Minister Stephen Tsang and JOS Deputy Director Milton Tuart, emphasized that the project is designed to foster civic awareness and personal development alongside economic support. Additionally, starting in the second week of September, 50 youths with special needs will be given opportunities to gain experience at social institutions.
