Suriname launches safety dashboard as Dutch intelligence services face data oversight criticism

In Suriname, the Traffic Safety Institute (VVI), under the Ministry of Justice and Security, has officially launched the National Traffic Safety Dashboard. This tool is designed to provide insights into when, where, and under what circumstances traffic accidents occur. Developed through collaboration with the Suriname Police Force, the General Bureau of Statistics, and various medical and insurance entities, the dashboard aims to transform raw data into targeted safety measures and policy decisions.

In the Netherlands, the cabinet has pledged to improve data interception practices by the AIVD and MIVD intelligence services. This follows critical feedback from the CTIVD regarding 'investigation-oriented interception,' where large volumes of data are intercepted simultaneously. The regulator noted risks regarding the inconsistent use of metadata and the potential for services to store more data than permitted due to inadequate filtering controls. Ministers Dilan Yeşilgöz and Pieter Heerma stated that the services are already addressing some of these issues.
