Suriname launches subsidized vocational training in Bernarddorp

The Directorate of Welfare and Labor, under the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, has launched four subsidized vocational training programs in Bernarddorp, Para district. These programs are part of the national ‘Wroko Foe Mek Moni’ employment project, which aims to enhance the economic self-reliance of vulnerable groups in the workforce by providing practical skills.

Executed by the Stichting Arbeidsmobilisatie en Ontwikkeling (SAO), the four-month courses include Textile Workforms, Electrical Home Installation, GaWaSa, and Microsoft Office applications (Windows, Word, and PowerPoint). The training and all necessary educational materials are fully subsidized by the government and provided free of charge to participants.

Deputy Minister Raj Jadnanansing emphasized the importance of the SAO’s mobility in delivering these trainings to various locations across the country to ensure no one is left behind in skill development. Similar training initiatives recently commenced in Kwatta, Wanica, with more regions expected to follow.
