Suriname vocational training initiatives
Overview
Suriname has implemented several government-subsidized vocational training initiatives to enhance workforce skills and economic self-reliance.
In late July 2026, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labour, in collaboration with the Suriname Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre and the Inter-American Development Bank, launched the third edition of the “Leri Fu Feni Wroko” program. This tourism and hospitality training targets job-seekers and workers across multiple regions, including Paramaribo and Sipaliwini, providing support such as transport and childcare.
Following this, the Directorate of Welfare and Labor launched four subsidized vocational courses in Bernarddorp as part of the “Wroko Foe Mek Moni” employment project. These courses, covering textile work, electrical installation, and Microsoft Office applications, are executed by the Stichting Arbeidsmobilisatie en Ontwikkeling to provide practical skills to vulnerable groups. Similar initiatives have also been noted in Kwatta, Wanica.
