Suriname President receives credentials from new foreign ambassadors

Several new ambassadors have officially presented their credentials to President Jennifer Simons at the Presidential Palace in Paramaribo, signaling a push to strengthen Suriname’s international ties.

Martine Jacoba Busstra has begun her term as the Dutch ambassador, expressing interest in deepening bilateral relations through economic cooperation, particularly within Suriname’s emerging oil and gas sector. Other non-resident ambassadors representing the Philippines, Zambia, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and the United Kingdom also presented their credentials, all expressing readiness to elevate bilateral relations.

Additionally, President Simons swore in Ivan Fernald and Andy Atmodimedjo as Suriname’s new ambassadors to Guyana and Indonesia, respectively. The President emphasized that these diplomats must prioritize national interests, sovereignty, and economic diplomacy to capitalize on changing international relations and local industrial developments.
