Susan Sarandon arrested during New York protest against Netanyahu

American actress Susan Sarandon and comedian Hannah Einbinder were arrested by the New York Police Department during a protest in Manhattan. The demonstration, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, took place near the United Nations headquarters during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the UN General Assembly.

Police stated the arrests occurred during an unpermitted demonstration that was blocking an intersection. Officers reported that protesters were asked to clear the area but refused to comply. Participants held signs calling for an end to military aid to Israel and protesting the conflict in Gaza.

Other notable figures reported to be present at the protest included Chelsea Manning, Cynthia Nixon, and Elliot Page. Einbinder expressed via social media that she hoped the images of the arrests would draw attention to the situation in Palestine.
