Susan Sarandon arrested during New York protest against Netanyahu

Actress Susan Sarandon and comedian Hannah Einbinder were among approximately 100 protesters arrested by the NYPD in New York City during a demonstration near the United Nations headquarters. The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, occurred as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived to address the UN General Assembly.

Participants blocked intersections, including First Avenue, and held signs demanding an end to military aid and weapons supplies to Israel. The NYPD stated that officers responded to an unannounced demonstration and issued warnings to clear the area; those who refused were taken into custody. Other notable detainees included Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier and New York City Council member Chi Ossé.

During his address to the General Assembly, Netanyahu criticized opponents and those who left the hall during his speech, labeling them as having ‘moral cowardice.’ Sarandon has previously noted that her pro-Palestinian activism has resulted in the loss of professional acting roles.
