University of Chicago investigates alleged sexual assault at fraternity party

Chicago police and the University of Chicago are investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred early Sunday morning at the Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) fraternity house near the university campus. The victim, a 21-year-old woman who is not a student at the university, reported being assaulted in a basement bathroom during a party.

Witnesses reported that a group of men gathered outside the locked bathroom, allegedly cheering and shouting comments such as “When’s it my turn?” and “I want to go in there.” One witness described finding the victim partially undressed and not fully conscious. The suspect reportedly fled the house after being confronted.

The University of Chicago has identified a person of interest using witness statements, university camera footage, and license plate readers. The individual, who is not affiliated with the university, has been banned from campus. While the identity of the suspect has been linked by some sources to a Purdue University student, no formal charges have been filed as of Wednesday.
