Sustainability initiatives drive energy and circular economy progress in Spain

Regional sustainability initiatives in Spain are showing measurable progress in circular economy and energy efficiency. In the Region of Murcia, the Institute of Promotion (Info) has expanded its Dynamic Catalogue of Good Practices in Circular Economy to include over 150 business experiences. These practices, which cover sectors such as agri-food, energy, and ICT, focus on the ‘seven Rs’—rethink, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, recover, and remanufacture. Approximately 40% of these measures have resulted in cost savings for participating companies.

In the Valencian Community, the implementation of Energy Savings Certificates (CAE) has led to an accumulated energy saving of over 500 million kWh. To date, 363 certificates have been successfully issued, allowing companies to monetize their energy savings by selling certificates to energy providers. The industrial sector has been the primary driver of this program, accounting for 164 certificates, followed by the transport sector with 97.
