Sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives

Overview

Sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives are advancing through various regional programs in Spain and Mexico.

In Spain, efforts focus on the circular economy and renewable infrastructure. In the Region of Murcia, the Institute of Promotion (Info) has documented over 150 business practices centered on the ‘seven Rs’—rethink, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, recover, and remanufacture—with 40% of measures yielding cost savings. In the Valencian Community, the Energy Savings Certificates (CAE) program has achieved savings of over 500 million kWh, primarily driven by the industrial and transport sectors. Additionally, in León, a 51 million euro investment is being directed toward a biomass plant and a Sustainable Heat Network intended to provide renewable thermal energy to over 28,000 homes and 150 buildings.

In Mexico, sustainable development is being addressed through housing. The municipal government of Hermosillo has initiated the third stage of the La Campiña development, constructing 314 social housing units equipped with thermal insulation, solar panel readiness, and ecological devices to minimize water and electricity consumption.
