Sustainability initiatives expand in the Netherlands
Local sustainability initiatives are gaining momentum in the Netherlands through new recycling technology and community repair efforts. In Haarlemmermeer, a new XXL deposit return machine has been inaugurated at Intratuin. Unlike standard supermarket machines that require individual bottle insertion, this bulk equipment allows consumers to deposit entire bags of cans and bottles at once, aiming to reduce litter and increase recycling efficiency.
In Nieuwegein, the Repair Café Galecop is hosting an event to help residents extend the lifespan of broken household items. This initiative aligns with World Cleanup Day, a United Nations-recognized event focused on addressing the global waste crisis. Alongside repair efforts, local groups are organizing clean-up walks along the Lek river to remove litter from natural areas.
