Sustainability initiatives promote repair and reuse in the Netherlands

Sustainability initiatives in the Netherlands are focusing on repair and reuse to reduce environmental impact. In Amsterdam, the ‘Wear For Life’ campaign is running from September 1 to October 12. The initiative, involving over 120 organizations and shops, aims to encourage residents to repair, swap, and buy second-hand clothing. This effort addresses the fact that one in five garments in Dutch wardrobes goes unworn, and aims to mitigate the city's textile-related CO2 emissions.

In Kaatsheuvel, the local Repair Café is hosting sessions to help residents extend the life of household items. Volunteers offer assistance with electronics, clothing, and small appliances. The café also provides technical support for computers, including advice on using Linux to revive older hardware. These community events aim to promote knowledge sharing and environmental responsibility by preventing unnecessary waste.
