Sustainable Fashion and Green E‑commerce Drive Market Shift

Consumer demand for eco‑friendly products is reshaping the fashion and online retail sectors. In Hong Kong, a 2022 survey found that 68 % of shoppers consider a brand’s sustainability practices important, signalling a move away from fast‑fashion disposability toward longer‑lasting, transparent goods. Designers are responding with alternatives such as faux‑leather patches for hats, using materials like polyurethane, recycled polyester, and plant‑based leathers that require far less water and avoid harmful chemicals compared with traditional animal leather.

At the same time, sustainable marketplaces are redefining e‑commerce. Platforms are prioritising ethical sourcing, low‑carbon logistics and recyclable packaging, while employing technologies such as blockchain for traceability and AI to optimise delivery routes. These green initiatives are coupled with social goals—fair wages and community support—creating value‑focused shopping experiences that appeal especially to younger, environmentally‑conscious consumers.
