SUTEYM members demand arrest of René Palomares for murder

Members of the SUTEYM union in Naucalpan held a protest in front of the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office (FGJEM) to demand the arrest of René Palomares Parra. Palomares is the suspected perpetrator of the murder of photographer Luis Fernando Cosgaya Herrera, known as “Peruzzi,” and an attack on Tomás Palomares Parra.

The incident occurred two years ago during a union meeting at the SUTEYM headquarters in Toluca. According to investigation files, a confrontation between the brothers René and Tomás Palomares resulted in René discharging a firearm. While initial reports suggested Cosgaya was caught in the crossfire, video evidence indicates the shooting was a direct attack.

Despite an active arrest warrant and a reward of up to 300,000 pesos offered by the FGJEM, the suspect remains at large. Protesters have criticized the authorities for their perceived incapacity and raised concerns regarding inconsistencies in the investigation, noting that the case file is being held in central offices rather than the standard department. Demonstrators have warned of further mobilizations if no progress is made.
