SUTEYM members demand arrest of René Palomares Parra
Members of the Single Union of State and Municipal Workers (SUTEYM) in Naucalpan have announced a protest at the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office (FGJEM). The demonstration aims to demand the arrest of René Palomares Parra, who is accused of murdering photographer Luis Fernando Cosgaya Herrera, known as ‘Peruzzi’, two years ago in Toluca.
In addition to the murder, René Palomares is accused of attempting to kill his brother, Tomás Palomares Parra, the current leader of SUTEYM in Naucalpan, during an attack on August 14, 2024. Tomás Palomares has alleged that the suspect has been detained by the prosecution on three separate occasions but released due to corruption and bribery.
Family members of the victims, including Cosgaya’s wife, Sara Galán, have expressed frustration over the lack of progress despite changes in prosecutors and officials. The union members intend to hold a sit-in at the FGJEM to pressure authorities for accountability and to investigate why the suspect remains at large.
