Suzuki and Mitsubishi advance electric vehicle lineups with new compact models

Automakers are expanding their electric vehicle (EV) portfolios with new compact and entry-level models. Suzuki has revealed the production version of the e-Sky, a compact electric kei car designed for urban environments. Expected to launch in the UK and other markets, the e-Sky offers a range of approximately 310 kilometers and is positioned as an affordable option, with UK pricing expected to be under £20,000. Additionally, Suzuki has launched the e-Vitara in Peru, its first 100% electric model in that country, featuring a 61 kWh battery and a range of up to 380 kilometers.

Mitsubishi Motors has implemented updates to its eK Cross and eK Wagon models in Japan. These improvements focus on safety and convenience, including the addition of a rear seat alert system, expanded camera fields of view for collision mitigation braking, and updated USB Type-C ports.

In the compact EV segment, BYD has released the Rakko in Japan. The vehicle utilizes laser welding and high-strength steel to enhance body rigidity despite its tall, boxy design. While Suzuki executives have expressed reservations about electrifying the Jimny due to its traditional character, the company continues to push electrification through its other compact and urban models.
