Suzuki electric vehicle launch and global expansion
Overview
Suzuki’s electric vehicle rollout is expanding globally. The production version of the e-Sky, a compact electric kei car, has been revealed. Designed for urban environments, the e-Sky is expected to launch in the UK and other markets, with UK pricing anticipated to be under £20,000. This follows previous announcements regarding its 310 km range and lightweight design. In South America, Suzuki has launched the e-VITARA in Peru, marking the brand’s first 100% electric model in the country. This version features a 61 kWh battery and provides a range of up to 380 kilometers. While the company continues to push electrification through compact and urban models, Suzuki executives have expressed reservations about electrifying the Jimny due to its traditional character. Further details regarding the e-Sky indicate that Suzuki plans to announce the kei-class vehicle this autumn. Developed under the concept of being a ‘practical daily vehicle first and an EV second’, the prototype features a 26kWh battery capacity. The vehicle is capable of reaching an 80% charge in approximately 25 minutes using a 50kW rapid charger, or a full charge in roughly 8 hours via a standard 3kW home outlet. The e-Sky measures 3395mm in length, 1475mm in width, and 1625mm in height. Suzuki is also reportedly developing a new mini electric vehicle specifically for the budget-conscious mass market in India. Expected to debut within the next two years, the model is projected to cost between 8.5 and 10.5 lakh rupees. Unlike the e-VITARA, this model is being designed from the ground up on a dedicated electric platform to optimize costs, with an estimated driving range of 250km to 315km. Suzuki has officially launched the eVitara, its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), which was developed in collaboration with Toyota.
