Suzuki unveils 10-year technology strategy and hybrid roadmap
Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled its 'Technology Strategy 2026 for 10 Years Ahead,' a roadmap focused on a 'multi-pathway' approach to electrification. Rather than focusing solely on battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the company will develop a range of powertrains, including series hybrids, mild-hybrids, and a new range-extended powertrain platform dubbed 'REEV Light.'
Key technological developments include the 'Super Ene Charge' hybrid system, new turbocharged gasoline engines, and the evolution of the e-Axle system into a 6-in-1 configuration suitable for both BEVs and HEVs. The strategy also emphasizes software-defined vehicles (SDV), lightweight construction, and more efficient battery technology to reduce vehicle weight and power consumption.
Operationally, Suzuki aims to transform its production and engineering processes. By 2030, the company intends to halve the development time for new models while increasing engineering efficiency by 30 percent and production efficiency by 50 percent through digital engineering and modularization. India will serve as a critical pillar for this growth, with Suzuki aiming to reach an annual production capacity of four million units there by the 2030 fiscal year, supported by technical development led in Japan.
