Suzuki unveils Technology Strategy 2026 for hybrid and turbo engines
Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled its ‘Technology Strategy 2026’, outlining a multi-pathway approach to electrification and efficiency aimed at meeting diverse global market needs. The strategy emphasizes a ‘minimization of energy’ through various powertrain technologies, including battery electric vehicles (BEV), hybrids (HEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), and internal combustion engines (ICE) compatible with CNG and biofuels.
Key technical developments include the creation of a new e-Axle module for electric and hybrid drivetrains, and the pursuit of high-efficiency engines. Suzuki is targeting a thermal efficiency of 50% for its next-generation direct-injection turbo engines. Development is also underway for a 1.2-litre series-hybrid system and larger 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engines for D-segment vehicles and SUVs.
To improve competitiveness, Suzuki aims to reduce vehicle weight by up to 100kg by 2030 and halve new model development cycles through digital and AI-driven processes. In India, the company plans to significantly expand production capacity, targeting 4 million vehicles annually by 2030 or later, leveraging sites in Hansalpur, Kharkhoda, and Sanand to serve both domestic and global markets.
