Suzuki targets faster vehicle development and 4 million unit capacity in India
Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced a comprehensive ten-year technology and production strategy aimed at competing with the rapid development cycles of Chinese manufacturers like BYD and Xiaomi. CEO Toshihiro Suzuki stated the company intends to halve vehicle development time, reducing it from 40–48 months to approximately 24 months by the end of the decade.
A central pillar of this strategy is India, which Suzuki views as a primary driver for future growth. The company plans to increase its annual production capacity in India to approximately 4 million units by fiscal year 2030, up from current levels. This expansion will support both the domestic Indian market and international export needs.
Technologically, Suzuki is pursuing a multi-pathway approach rather than focusing solely on battery-electric vehicles. The roadmap includes hybrids, plug-in capable range-extender hybrids (REEV Light), CNG, and direct-injection turbo-petrol engines. Additionally, the company aims to standardize essential Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) across future models using a ‘Just-Right’ approach tailored to local market conditions and cost requirements.
