Suzuki unveils technology strategy for EVs and engine efficiency
Suzuki has unveiled its ‘Technology Strategy 2026’, a long-term roadmap focused on minimizing energy consumption through vehicle lightweighting and increased engine efficiency.
A key component of the strategy is the development of the ‘e SKY’ light EV prototype, which aims for a 310km driving range on a single charge. The company has worked to extend this range from an initial 230km by optimizing rolling resistance, power consumption, and gear ratios. The e SKY is expected to be announced in Japan in the autumn of 2026.
Beyond electrification, Suzuki aims to reduce overall vehicle weight by 100kg to 120kg by 2030. This includes meticulous efforts such as reducing the size of individual bolts to save weight across thousands of components. Additionally, the company is targeting a 50% thermal efficiency for its internal combustion engines by employing technologies like high EGR, lean combustion, and the Miller cycle.
