Svensk Handel reports July e-commerce turnover rise to 14.9 billion SEK
Swedish e-commerce turnover saw a significant increase in July, reaching an estimated 14.9 billion SEK, a 9 percent rise compared to the previous year. This follows a June turnover of 14.7 billion SEK, which was 4 percent lower than the same period last year. Total turnover growth for the second quarter was measured at 10 percent.
Per Ljungberg, innovation manager at Svensk Handel, noted that improving personal finances for Swedes have benefited the sector, describing it as a “good summer for e-commerce companies.” However, he cautioned that continued growth depends on the stability of the global situation.
A new customs duty introduced on July 1, which applies a 3 euro fee on goods valued at 150 euro or less shipped from outside the EU, has impacted specific retailers. An analysis by Again Technology for Svensk Handel shows that consumer purchases from Temu and Shein fell to 8 percent in July, compared to 18 percent in July of the previous year. Ljungberg stated that while the impact on these companies is clear, it is too early to determine if this represents a permanent decline.
