SVT suspects AI involvement in Melodifestivalen submissions
SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster, suspects that a significant portion of the record-breaking number of submissions for next year’s Melodifestivalen may be generated by artificial intelligence.
A total of 4,077 entries have been received, shattering the previous record of 1,890. Melodifestivalen project manager Anders Wistbacka noted that patterns, such as a single unknown individual submitting numerous tracks across diverse genres, suggest AI involvement.
While SVT does not currently use technical tools to definitively identify AI-generated songs, the broadcaster has not implemented a ban on the technology. Wistbacka stated that the organization intends to follow the standards set by the wider music industry rather than creating independent rules. He expressed confidence that none of the final 30 selected songs will be entirely AI-generated, as all entries must be performed live on stage.
