Sweden and Poland bolster NATO eastern flank security
Sweden has announced a significant shift in its defense strategy to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. Moving away from a doctrine focused primarily on territorial defense, the Swedish Air Force will now actively support airspace protection in Poland, Latvia, and northern Finland. General Michael Claesson noted that Sweden is transitioning into a security provider, focusing on protecting the strategic infrastructure and airspace of its allies.
Simultaneously, security concerns are rising across NATO's eastern flank due to potential Russian-inspired sabotage. In Poland, incidents such as the arson of a WB Group facility and an attack on a Starlink relay station have prompted increased protection for strategic sectors. The Polish Ministry of State Assets and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa are taking steps to bolster the security of state-controlled companies and critical infrastructure to mitigate escalating geopolitical threats.
