Sweden election outlook shows challenges for Tidö coalition
Current polling trends for the 2026 Swedish election suggest a significant challenge for the Tidö coalition. Estimates indicate the coalition may face a deficit of approximately seven percentage points compared to the opposition. The Liberal Party (L) faces a critical situation, with a high probability of falling below the 4 percent threshold required to enter parliament, which could impact the overall balance of power.
Analysis of the 2022 election reveals shifting voter demographics. While the Social Democrats (S) saw gains in socioeconomically strong urban districts, they experienced double-digit declines in vulnerable suburbs with high proportions of foreign-born residents. Specifically, in certain districts in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, the party's support dropped by more than 20 percentage points in areas where the foreign-born population exceeds 88 percent.
Looking ahead, the Center Party (C) may emerge as a decisive factor in government formation. Although the Center Party seeks a change in government, its support for market economy principles and lower taxes on labor could influence the direction of a potential Social Democrat-led administration.
