Sweden election race narrows between right and center-left

A new Novus poll conducted for TV4 shows the gap narrowing between Sweden’s right-wing governing coalition and the center-left opposition ahead of the September 13 elections. The four center-left parties currently hold 50.3% of the vote, while the governing coalition stands at 47.7%.

The 2.6 percentage point difference is the smallest recorded this year and falls within the margin of error, a significant shift from a previous Novus poll that showed a 6.9% gap. While Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson seeks reelection, Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson currently maintains a lead in the projections.

Pre-election debates have focused on the state-funded welfare system, healthcare, education, cost of living, security, migration, and energy supplies. However, the center-left faces potential instability in government formation, as the Centre Party has ruled out participating in a coalition if the Left Party is included.
