Sweden electricity prices hit state price cap threshold
Electricity prices in southern Sweden have risen sharply, surpassing the 150 öre per kilowatt-hour threshold that triggers the state's high-cost protection. Energy economist Claes Hemberg warns that villa owners could face monthly increases of up to 2,000 SEK during the winter months. While prices were around 113 öre in February, the rapid rise in October is noted as an unusual and ill-omened trend.
In regions like Uppsala, where winters are particularly harsh and dry, efficient heating is critical to managing costs. Improperly configured heat pumps—specifically incorrect heat curves—can increase energy consumption by 15% to 25%. Homeowners are advised to ensure their systems are correctly dimensioned and calibrated for local climate conditions to avoid significant financial losses during extreme cold periods.
