Sweden political parties seek to revise strict immigration laws

A coalition of political parties in Sweden, including the Social Democrats, the Left Party, the Centre Party, and the Green Party, is seeking to revise strict new immigration laws through a parliamentary compromise.

The regulations, which recently went into effect, have faced criticism for making family reunification nearly impossible. Under the current rules, even if a person has already brought their family to Sweden, any negative change in the family's economic status can lead to the deportation of all members. The coalition is specifically calling for the immediate removal of harsh deportation processes involving minors and young people.

One of the most controversial aspects of the law is the high income requirement for family reunification. Currently, an immigrant wishing to bring a spouse or a child must have a minimum monthly net income of 41,500 kronor, a figure that rises to approximately 53,000 kronor for families with two children. Party representatives argue these conditions fracture family unity and violate human rights, aiming to propose a new bill to bring these requirements to more reasonable and applicable levels.
