Sweden left-green bloc secures narrow parliamentary majority

Following the Swedish parliamentary elections, the left-green bloc has secured a narrow lead with 176 seats, compared to 173 seats for the center-right coalition. Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson has officially initiated the process of forming a new government.

Despite the shift, the Social Democrats recorded their lowest vote share of 28.1% since the introduction of universal suffrage in 1921. Conversely, the Sweden Democrats (SD) saw a decline, losing 3% of their vote share to finish at 17.6%.

Political tension remains high as Social Democrat spokesperson Tobias Bauden has called for the resignation of current Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. While the final results depend on the counting of overseas and early votes, experts suggest the outcome is unlikely to alter Sweden's established stance on European Union enlargement.
