Sweden prepares new foreign intelligence agency modeled on Britain’s MI6

The Swedish government plans to establish a dedicated foreign intelligence service, the Swedish Foreign Intelligence Service (Und). Officials say the new agency will be patterned after the United Kingdom’s MI6. The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from the Swedish Armed Forces, which questions the need for a separate body. A press conference was held to outline the agency’s purpose and structure.

The initiative marks a shift in Sweden’s intelligence framework, aiming to enhance overseas intelligence capabilities while navigating internal disagreements over its organization.
