Sweden receives first modernized Strv 123A tank

The Swedish Army has received the first of 110 modernized Strv 123A (Leopard 2 SWE) tanks, delivered from Germany. The vehicle arrived at the garrison in Skövde to begin training for instructors, technicians, and crews.

The modernization program, known as REMO, aims to consolidate various existing Strv 122 sub-variants into a single standardized version. The Strv 123A will feature upgraded capabilities, including the Rh120/L55A1 smoothbore gun.

This initiative is part of a larger procurement strategy involving KNDS Deutschland. Following the modernization of existing fleets, Sweden has also entered agreements for the delivery of 44 new Leopard 2A8 tanks, designated as Strv 123B. Ultimately, the Swedish Army expects to operate a total of 154 advanced Leopard 2 family tanks.
