Swedish towns battle rising wild boar and seagull nuisances

Residents of Surte, a suburb of Gothenburg, report an "explosive" increase in wild boar numbers. The animals raid gardens and trash bins, prompting owners to install electric fences. Local spokesperson Susanne Rauswall said, "It sounded like it was hailing," describing the boars' noisy foraging. She called for increased hunting, noting no municipal action has been taken yet.

In Munktellstaden, Eskilstuna, tenants are fed up with a growing seagull colony. Annika Hellsberg complained of droppings on balconies, constant screaming, and attacks on people, saying, "De har en koloni.” The municipal housing company Kfast has tried temporary deterrents such as sounds imitating birds of prey, but the protected status of the gulls limits more aggressive measures.
