Sweden wild boar surge and regional swine fever threat

The Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto) has implemented strict containment measures, including movement restrictions in affected areas such as Virolahti and Miehikkälä.

Authorities are evaluating the use of fencing to contain the disease, which poses a severe threat to forestry and agricultural sectors. Local stakeholders expressed concern that the epidemic could lead to long-term economic losses if the disease spreads further into regions like Uusimaa, potentially resulting in restrictions on logging, hunting, and berry picking.
