Sweden to Deliver 16 Gripen Jets to Ukraine, Offers Up to 18 More

The Swedish government announced a donation of 16 Saab Gripen C/D fighter aircraft to Ukraine, with a contract that allows the purchase of up to 18 additional jets. The package includes spare parts, pilot and ground‑crew training, and compatible weapons systems, and the first aircraft are expected to arrive within the coming months.

The deal, negotiated between Stockholm and Kyiv and financed by Sweden, is intended to give Ukraine a sustainable long‑term air capability and to deter further Russian aggression. Russia has warned that the Swedish jets would be treated as legitimate targets if used in combat, while NATO has praised the delivery as a sign of allied unity.
