Swedish car owners favor EV incentives over fossil fuel taxes

A new Sifo survey commissioned by Kvdbil reveals that a vast majority of Swedish car owners perceive electric vehicles (EVs) as too expensive. Approximately 83 percent of respondents believe EVs are overpriced, with only 5 percent considering them good value. This perception remains high even among current EV and plug-in hybrid drivers.

Regarding policy, the survey indicates that 65 percent of respondents oppose increasing taxes on petrol and diesel vehicles. Instead, there is significant support for economic incentives to encourage the transition to electric mobility. Specifically, 48 percent of respondents favor lower electricity prices for charging, and 45 percent support the reintroduction of a broad state EV bonus.

Daniel Odsberg, sales manager at Kvdbil, noted that while the perception of high prices persists, it may not fully reflect recent market shifts. Increased competition and new entry-level models have brought new EV prices down to the 250,000 to 350,000 SEK range, while the average used EV price sits around 250,000 SEK.
