Swedish drug trafficker Jonas Falk charged with multi‑ton cocaine smuggling

Jonas Falk, one of Sweden’s most notorious criminals, has been formally charged with four cases of aggravated drug offenses committed in South America and Southern Europe during 2020‑2021. Prosecutor Lars Lindman said the alleged crimes involve more than 2.5 tonnes of cocaine, with the bulk of the evidence coming from communications on the encrypted app Sky ECC and from seized cocaine shipments.

One highlighted case concerns a test shipment from Costa Rica to the port of Setúbal in Portugal. According to chat logs, Falk directed the packing of 123 kg of cocaine into containers disguised as pineapple shipments. When the container arrived on 17 December 2020, most of the cargo was stolen; only a 21‑kg portion was recovered. Falk’s messages threatened retaliation against the thieves and discussed possible kidnapping of a dock worker, prompting a separate investigation for attempted murder in Portugal. Falk has denied the allegations during his detention.

The new indictment follows Falk’s 2025 conviction for attempted extortion of financier Joachim Kuylenstierna. The prosecutor stated that the theft of the cocaine does not affect the charges, as the crime was already complete.
