Swedish Government Launches €300 m Climate Loan Programme for SMEs

Sweden is expanding business financing options for limited companies. Traditional corporate loans for aktiebolag range from SEK 50,000 to 15 million and are provided by banks, the state‑owned ALMI agency and digital lenders, with terms based on creditworthiness and collateral.

In addition, the Swedish Ministry of Industry and Tourism announced a new scheme, Innovation X Climate, backed by a €300 million budget and managed by the European Investment Fund’s National Innovation Company (Enisa). The programme offers equity‑linked loans of €25 000 to €1.5 million per small or medium‑sized enterprise for projects that improve climate resilience, water management, energy transition and other sustainability goals. Applications are now open, and the loans are designed to be granted without personal guarantees and with extended repayment periods.

Both the existing corporate‑loan market and the Innovation X Climate programme aim to support Swedish firms in financing investments, equipment, marketing, and climate‑focused innovations.
