Swedish Left Party Denies Alleged Letters to Palestinian Prisoners

Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that every member of the Left Party’s parliamentary group and its EU representatives had sent solidarity letters to Palestinian prisoners, some of whom are convicted of serious terrorist offences. The party rejected the claim, with leader Nooshi Dagostar stating, “Expressen has published false information,” and party secretary Maria Forsberg saying only a few MPs were involved and no parliamentary demonstrations took place. Expressen later attributed the inaccuracies to information supplied by the Palestinian Authority. Dagostar added that “there were two persons in this campaign,” and that the party had apologized for any misunderstanding. The controversy also references earlier allegations that some party candidates have praised Hamas and other militant groups, prompting the party to remove over twenty candidates from its lists. The dispute highlights internal tensions over the party’s stance on the Israeli‑Palestinian conflict.
