Swedish opposition blocks Tesla FSD rollout over speed‑offset feature

Sweden's Transport Administration has sent a letter to the European Union's Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles recommending that the committee vote against the Europe‑wide approval of Tesla's Full Self‑Driving (Supervised) system unless the "speed offset" function is disabled. The speed offset allows drivers to set a margin that lets the vehicle exceed posted speed limits. The Swedish authority warned that “allowing automated systems to systematically exceed legal speed limits … risks undermining both the legal framework and the expected safety benefits of vehicle automation.”

The matter will be discussed at a committee meeting on 30 June, ahead of a later vote on the technology's EU‑wide deployment. While the Dutch regulator RDW has already approved the feature for use in the Netherlands, Sweden argues the function contravenes European road‑safety standards and could affect Tesla's software revenue and market expansion across the bloc. Tesla has not responded to requests for comment.
