Swedish Police warn of new jewelry and bank card scams

Police in West Sweden have issued a warning regarding a new fraudulent scheme used to steal jewelry, bank cards, and other valuables. In a single week, approximately ten completed cases and five attempted cases have been reported.

The scam typically begins with a phone call from an individual claiming to represent a car rental company, alleging that a rental vehicle has not been returned. The victim is then transferred to someone impersonating a police officer or security official. In several instances, the perpetrators have subsequently visited the victims' homes to collect the requested valuables.

Authorities advise the public to remain vigilant and remind citizens that the police will never visit homes to collect bank cards or valuables. Officials urge individuals to hang up if they are uncertain of a caller's identity and to never use BankID or disclose security codes and personal identification upon the request of an unsolicited caller.
