Impersonation scams in Sweden

Overview

Swedish police have issued warnings regarding various impersonation scams targeting residents. In Sörmland, authorities reported a tactic where scammers pose as flower delivery personnel to gain entry into homes, subsequently demanding compensation or attempting to seize bank cards.

In West Sweden, a different scheme has emerged involving fraudulent phone calls. Perpetrators claim to represent a car rental company regarding an unreturned vehicle, then transfer the victim to an individual impersonating a police officer or security official. These scammers have visited homes to collect jewelry, bank cards, and other valuables. Police have advised the public that they will never visit homes to collect such items and urged citizens to avoid disclosing security codes or using BankID with unsolicited callers.
