Swedish police warn of organized luxury SUV theft wave

Police and industry experts are warning of a wave of luxury vehicle thefts targeting specific SUV models in Sweden, particularly in Stockholm and the East police region. Authorities suspect organized international gangs are responsible for the recent surge in high-value thefts.

Specifically, the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 has been a primary target, with six units stolen in just a few months, including four in August alone. Land Rover models are also being targeted. Experts from Larmtjänst suggest that thieves focus on specific models for which they possess the specialized tools to bypass security without keys.

While overall car theft statistics in Sweden have decreased significantly since 2016, these high-end thefts involve vehicles valued at approximately two million SEK. Investigators believe the stolen vehicles are intended for sale abroad rather than being used locally.
