Organized luxury SUV thefts in Sweden

Overview

Swedish authorities and industry experts have issued warnings regarding a wave of organized luxury vehicle thefts. The surge is particularly concentrated in Stockholm and the East police region, with international gangs suspected of being responsible.

Thieves are specifically targeting high-value SUV models, such as the Land Rover and the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63. In one instance, six AMG G63 units were stolen within a few months, including four in August. Experts suggest that criminals use specialized tools to bypass security systems without keys, focusing on models for which they have the necessary technology. While general car theft in Sweden has declined since 2016, these high-end thefts involve vehicles valued at approximately two million SEK and are believed to be intended for sale abroad.
