Swedish retail sector sees broad June optimism
The Swedish Trade Association's Handelsbarometer showed a marked rise in confidence for June. The overall future index increased by 3.7 points to 100.3, with the grocery segment climbing 5.4 points to 104.1, non‑food retail up 1.9 points to 96.5, and wholesale improving 1.9 points to 95.1.
Sofia Larsen, CEO of Svensk Handel, attributed the broad upturn to stronger household purchasing power and the recent reduction in food VAT, noting that while optimism is growing, the recovery remains fragile and it will take time for improved sentiment to translate into higher consumer spending and better company results.
