SWISS begins fleet-wide rollout of Starlink satellite internet
SWISS has begun the rollout of high-speed satellite internet powered by Starlink across its fleet. The first operational flight using the technology took place on September 28, 2026, on an Airbus A320neo traveling from Zurich to Thessaloniki.
The service utilizes SpaceX’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, which offers lower latency and higher data rates compared to traditional geostationary communication satellites. This allows for connectivity to be available from boarding through disembarkation.
Access to the internet will be free of charge for all travel classes for passengers using a Travel ID or Miles & More service card. The initiative is part of a broader Lufthansa Group program to provide unified Wi-Fi services across its airlines. SWISS aims to have its entire fleet equipped with Starlink technology by the end of 2029. Sister airline Edelweiss has also announced plans to equip its entire fleet, though a specific timetable is still being finalized.
