Swiss electricity prices expected to fall in 2027

Electricity prices for most Swiss households are expected to decrease in 2027. According to the federal regulator ElCom, prices in the regulated basic-supply market will fall by a median of 4% due to cheaper energy procurement. A typical household consuming 4,500 kWh per year is projected to pay approximately CHF 1,194, representing a saving of about CHF 53 compared to 2026.

The decline is primarily driven by a 6.3% drop in the energy component of tariffs as expensive contracts signed during the energy crisis expire. However, ElCom notes that tariffs remain at a “rather high level,” with the median household tariff at 26.5 centimes per kWh. While energy costs fall, network charges and metering costs are expected to rise slightly.

Local variations remain significant across Switzerland's 580 distribution-network operators. For example, in Sulgen, prices will decrease due to early energy purchases and a shift to seasonal tariffs designed to encourage consumption during peak solar production. In Kradolf-Schönenberg, a typical household could save roughly 40 CHF annually. Conversely, in Erlen, costs may rise due to the introduction of a new peak-load price, where the simultaneous operation of multiple devices affects the total bill.
