Swiss electricity tariff reductions for 2027

Overview

Swiss electricity providers have announced various reductions in household and business electricity tariffs scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. These decreases follow periods of market volatility and high energy costs.

Specific providers and regions have reported different scales of reduction. Société Énergétique de la Vallée de Joux SA (SEVJ) plans an average household price decrease of 7.9% by simplifying its tariff structure, while the municipality of Yverdon-les-Bains approved a 4.4% reduction. In the Romandie region, Romande Energie announced an average reduction of 6%. Other providers, such as Primeo Energie, reported a planned average decrease of approximately 2% for basic supply customers, marking its third consecutive year of price cuts. In Geneva, Services industriels de Genève (SIG) received validation to lower rates by approximately 2% for households and small businesses, and 4% for medium and large companies.

According to the federal regulator ElCom, prices in the regulated basic-supply market are expected to fall by a median of 4% due to cheaper energy procurement. A typical household consuming 4,500 kWh per year is projected to pay approximately CHF 1,194, a saving of about CHF 53 compared to 2026. This decline is primarily driven by a 6.3% drop in the energy component of tariffs as expensive contracts signed during the energy crisis expire. However, ElCom notes that tariffs remain at a “rather high level,” with the median household tariff at 26.5 centimes per kWh. While energy costs fall, network charges and metering costs are expected to rise slightly. Local variations persist, with some areas like Sulgen seeing decreases due to seasonal tariffs, while others like Erlen may see costs rise due to new peak-load pricing.
