Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security warns of phishing scams

The Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) has issued a warning regarding an increase in fraudulent messages targeting individuals and businesses in Switzerland. Scammers are impersonating the agency to demand payments, often under the guise of fees required for package deliveries.

The fraudulent tactics include phishing emails, SMS messages, and fake letters containing QR codes that redirect users to malicious websites. In some instances, scammers may call victims beforehand, posing as customs experts to establish trust. These communications often use unauthorized BAZG logos and official-looking designs to appear legitimate.

The BAZG emphasizes that it never sends payment requests via email or SMS, nor does it contact individuals by telephone in advance regarding such matters. Authorities recommend that recipients ignore and delete these messages. If personal or financial data has been compromised, individuals are advised to contact their bank or credit card issuer immediately to block affected cards.
