Swiss government agency phishing scams
Overview
Authorities in Switzerland have issued warnings regarding various phishing campaigns impersonating federal agencies to defraud the public.
In early October, the Appenzell Innerrhoden Cantonal Police reported fraudulent emails using the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) logo. These messages falsely claimed to be traffic fines or payment reminders to trick recipients into revealing financial information.
By late October, the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) reported an increase in scams targeting both individuals and businesses. These tactics include phishing emails, SMS messages, and fake letters featuring QR codes. Scammers may also pose as customs experts via telephone to build trust, often demanding payments for purported package delivery fees. Both agencies emphasize that they do not issue payment requests via email, SMS, or telephone.
